FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS1. What is IROC?
IROC stands for Indoor Recreation of Orleans County. IROC is a 501(c)(3)non-profit wellness community organization located in Derby, Vermont, just south of the Canadian border.
2. What is IROCs mission? What does it do?
IROC has a three-fold mission:
To develop community-centered facilities and programs that foster a safe environment and inclusive programs to all participants;
To improve the quality of life and develop healthy lifestyles for Northeast Kingdom area residents especially youth through educational and recreational activities; and,
To offer its services at the lowest cost possible.
3. What physical fitness and recreation programs are there at IROC?
IROCs Fitness Center (Main Level) contains 11 pieces of cardiovascular equipment, including three treadmills, three elliptical gliders, two recumbent bikes, an upright bike, a stair stepper, and a Concept II rowing machine. It also includes 16 strength training machines, and there is a whole section of free weights as well. The Fitness Center also sponsors regular aerobics, yoga, and spinning classes, and other basic fitness programs.
The Pronto Sports Arena houses an array of features, including three high-school sized basketball courts, an indoor inline hockey rink, an indoor soccer field, and soon to be installed seating for spectators. The design of the Pronto Sports Arena allows the staff to change from one activity to another almost instantaneously, based on the needs of the community. A 1/10 mile walking track surrounds the Pronto Sports Arena and is available to the public at no cost.
The Warren S. And Jesse E Mitchell Aquatic Center is open to the public and can be used for recreational swimming programs as well as for competitive swimming and general use, while also accommodating such unique programming as kayaking and scuba instruction. There is a four-lane lap section, a gradual ramp entry feature, and a 94 degree therapy pool.
